Hello everyone! As we enter the final phase of summer, I wanted to reach out to do a quick check-in. Many exciting things are happening, and some are not public knowledge yet, so you’ll get a little inside scoop.
First, I am doing another workshop at Berkshire Music School next week. These classes are so fun for me to teach since the kids get to work in groups to collaborate on projects. It’s so great to see each student’s individual taste shine through in their work. It makes the hassle of having to lug my equipment back and forth from my studio totally worth it. Since BMS is very traditional and does not have much in the way of technology, I end up having to use all of my own gear. This includes computers, monitors, speakers, headphones, and instruments like MIDI controllers. Hopefully, though, if the classes there become more frequent they can invest in a proper space to hold workshops!
Right now BeatNest is undergoing some major renovations in preparation for the fall. I will now have the option to sign up for the entire first semester of school. This will be from September until Christmas vacation. It can be either weekly (14 classes), or bi-weekly (7 classes). You will still have the option to do one class at a time, but signing up for a semester will come at a 10% discount.
By committing to a semester of school, It will give students the opportunity to follow a more linear curriculum and work towards larger goals. My hope is that the students will have a chance to showcase what they have worked on that semester for an audience at an event open to the public! I have a couple of venues in mind for this (including the Lenox Library, which is such an amazing space to host an event). Of course, students won’t be forced to participate if he/she is feeling uneasy about being in front of people, but I can think of a few students now who would jump at the occasion!
In addition to all of this, my website is going through a major update right now and will hopefully be up and running with a whole new look by September! Soon, parents will be able to register for a semester or individual classes online, cutting out any unnecessary back and forth. I am sure it’s going to make everyone’s lives easier so I can focus on teaching!
